We were lucky enough to get our hands on the new Cobb Accessport V3 for our 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost. The COBB Tuning Accessport is the first and easiest modification you can make to your car to see instant results. The Accessport is the world’s best selling, most flexible, and easiest to use ECU upgrade solution for many cars. Unlock power hidden within the vehicle by replacing conservative factory settings with more aggressive calibrations.
Upon unboxing the Cobb Accessport, it comes with everything you need for a simple plug and play system. As far as a portable tuner, this is probably the easiest route to go with some of the more in-depth features. Within minutes we had the Accessport connected to the car and were ready to go. The Accessport starts by making a copy of the stock ECU map, just in case it’s ever needed again or if you decide to return the car back to stock. The on-screen instructions are to the point and made installation a breeze. Once the stock map was copied and stored, a simple click on the desired map flashes the ECU and its ready to go after a couple of minutes. We installed the Stage 1 93 map, which was the best option for the modifications we have installed. (Corsa Performance Intake and Full 3″ Turbo-Back Exhaust.) After everything was ready to go, we attached holster for the Accessport to the dash for easy access and viewing. The design is clean and looks great with the Mustang interior. Total elapsed install time was about 25 minutes from start to finish.
For the initial tune, we decided to use the pre-loaded Off-The-Shelf (OTS) maps provided by COBB for the Ecoboost Mustang. The Maps included are: Stages 1-3 with 91 and 93 Octane gas maps for each stage. Also included are 2 Non-Performance Maps: Anti-theft Mode and Valet Mode. Like I mentioned before, we decided to go with the Stage 1 93 Map to get the best performance per the modifications made.
The Stage 1 Map included the following options for 93 octane gas:
Stage1 93
- Fuel Requirements: 93+ Octane (RON+MON/2) (98+ RON) fuel minimum
- Boost: Dynamic based upon atmospheric conditions, fuel quality, gear, rpm, drivetrain, and map slot.
- Up to ~23.0psi tapering to ~19.5psi by redline. (+/- 3psi).
- Map slot 1 = Max Perf. – This is the standard OTS map with full boost.
- Map slot 2 = Mid-High Perf. – This is the standard OTS map with 6% less boost.
- Map slot 3 = Mid-Low Per. – This is the standard OTS map with 11% less boost.
- Map slot 4 = Low Perf. – This is the standard OTS map with 17% less boost.
- Map slot 5 = Economy – This mode disables the wastegate and adjusts WOT fueling and ignition timing for efficiency. This can be used to quickly lower power for times when performance is not needed.
- Up to ~23.0psi tapering to ~19.5psi by redline. (+/- 3psi).
Cobb made changing between maps on the go brainless and very convenient. Just hold the cancel button on the cruise control and hit the + or – buttons and chose your map number as it reads on your Tachometer RPMS 1-5. (Other Map explanations and features found here: https://cobbtuning.atlassian.net/wiki/display/PRS/Ford+Mustang+EcoBoost+Map+Notes )
Initially we put it on Map Slot 1, which gives you the max performance of the tune and full boost. After driving it around for a little while, the car felt like a different car. Feeling the car hit almost 23lbs of boost and not fall on its face is quite the feeling from how the car felt completely stock. We did some nice pulls in the car, and were still able to average over 27mpg over a full tank of gas in town. (We do not know the exact Horsepower and Torque increase at this time, but once we get a chance to put it on the dyno we will report back with exact numbers.)
One of the best features in our opinion is being able to data log and monitor your cars performance. The Accessport allows you to monitor up to 6 different readings on the screen at a time, boost or any other live information, directly from the ECU. This allows you to constantly be aware of whats going on with your car at all times, which is a great necessity for any modified car. Other main features of the Cobb Accessport include:
Trouble Codes: Read engine trouble codes to diagnose issues. Clear them when resolved. Prevent expensive trips to the dealership.
Change Maps: Store up to 100 maps from our OTS map database or from your favorite COBB tuner and quickly switch between them for any need.
Data Logging: Record multiple data channels simultaneously for in-depth evaluation of engine performance. Stores up to 10 hours.
Performance Measuring: Welcome to your own performance evaluation suite! Measure 0-60 mph time, 60 foot and ¼ mile ET’s. and Trap Speed.
Shift Light: Set custom RPM warning lights for perfect shifts every time.
AP Manager: Use your PC or Mac to manage maps, download recorded datalogs, or quickly update your Accessport.
All of the available options on the Accessport make this one of the best portable tuners on the market. If available for your car, we would recommend the Cobb Accessport V3 to everyone.
