The supercharged Cadillac CTS-V Coupe has been one of the most sought after performance coupes on the market since its introduction in 2004. And it’s no wonder – few things car-related are better than a supercharged V8-powered luxury sedan that provides a first-class experience either on the way to dinner or down the quarter-mile.
Clearly, Jerry Groves feels the same way, but he’s taken things about 50-steps further. Hey – there’s levels to this sh&%.
Jerry Groves’ twin-turbocharged CTS-V is without question the baddest of its kind and officially the quickest on the planet. Jerry and his team took the full-interior, full-weight Cadillac to Maryland International Raceway this past week and posted a record-breaking 7.659-second, 181.64mph pass to reset the current performance benchmark for these cars. To say the least, this slick street car has the street car world buzzing.
“I unloaded it from the trailer and drove it to Golds Gym last night after breaking the record a few days ago,” says Groves. “It’s unbelievable. This has been a goal for almost two years now, and its a huge accomplishment for us to finally get our seven-second quarter-mile pass. I’m pretty proud of what we have done and I can’t wait to break into the six-second range now.”
We bet all of you are wondering how this 4,100-pound Cadillac ran a blistering seven-second pass? We sure were.
Well, first off, Jerry took the factory 6.2L supercharged Engine and replaced it with a TEC 420ci LSX engine equipped with a LME Billet Intake and twin PTE 76mm turbos outfitted by Gearhead Fabrications. He swapped in a TH400 and a 9-inch rear end and left the IRS installed with added Penske suspension components. The car was tuned by Chris Delgado from D3 Performance Engineering and makes right around 2,000-horsepower to the rear wheels.
“I just want to say thanks to Jerry for giving me the opportunity to work with him on his car,” says Delgado. “Also, I’d like to give a shout out to Shane from Penske for a great suspension setup, Fuel Injector Development for the top notch service, and Professional EFI systems for the outstanding engine management.”
Groves continued, “Gearhead Fabrications is the one who built the car originally, I want to make sure they get credit because they did an awesome job with the car. The car is equipped with a full roll cage and we had to swap out the stock Recaro seats because they wouldn’t fit the proper safety harness. Other than that the car is a full-blown street car still and sits right around stock weight. We had the previous record, too, of 8.33-seconds, and that was with the heated and cooled seats. There’s only one other car that has touched the 8s and his time was 8.97. We want to gap the record even further until we’re about two-seconds ahead of our competition.
“I want thank everyone that was involved and also my wife for putting up with my spending habits on the car,” continues Groves. “We aren’t done yet, though. We started to run out of turbo so we are going to swap in a Pro Mod 106mm turbo so we can go faster yet, and we hope to see it in the six-second range real soon.”
