Race season is rapidly getting underway, and what better way to get into the racing spirit than with Street Car Takeover! Street Car Takeover is a fast growing street car event that travels the nation and brings out everything from the normal daily driver to some of the fastest legal street cars on the planet! STREET/RACE Magazine was on scene all weekend long in Phoenix. Friday night events included a dyno night meet and car show at Black Market Racing (BMR). Cars were pushing their limits on the dyno all night long pushing horsepower ranges from 200hp to almost 1000hp! After everyone proves their numbers on the dyno, it’s time to put down the power on the track all day Saturday. Wild Horse Pass Motorsport Park was the host for the second year in a row, bringing out even more competitors and spectators than before. Here are some of my highlight moments of the weekend from both the dyno night and race day!
1. 7-SECOND PROCHARGED CHEVY II – Glen Bolz has to have one of the best looking Chevy Nova II’s on the planet hands down. Looking over this whole car I challenge you to find one imperfection, I promise you won’t because this thing is perfect to the T! Powered by a Steve Morris 540ci motor and one of the most massive Prochargers we have ever seen, Glen set his own record and fastest pass record at any Street Car takeover with a 7.169 @ 195.53mph!
2. REAR-WHEEL DRIVE EVO? WHAT? It’s not everyday that you see a big tire on the back of a Mitsubishi Evolution, and that what makes this car so awesome. They took the motor and flipped it to an Inline 4 so they could convert to a full RWD Setup. Some people would call him crazy, but I personally think it looks BA with a fat tire and it definitely puts the power down on the track. This thing was ripping down the track all day long!
3. 900 HORSEPOWER MR2 – Yeah you read that title right, 900+whp in a Toyota MR2. This thing is like a mini rocket ship that’s ready to cause some butt-hurt! Powered by a Boosted Honda K20, you can only imagine how it feels when the boost hits!
4. JUSTIN KEITH’S PROCHARGED C7 (AKA STANGKILR) – Stangkilr is one of the most well-known C7 Corvettes in the street car world. Sitting on a nice and meaty drag radial with Weld Racing Wheels and powered by a massive F1a Procharger and Deatschewerks fuel system, this corvette means serious business. Justin ran his personal best this past weekend, a 10.03 at 146.67mph and it’s not even all the way turned up yet!
5. ULTRA BLUE TRACTION COMPOUND TWIN-TURBO SILVERADO – This is one bad beast! Powered by a LSX 427 and a couple of turbos, this Silverado puts down over 900+whp! They still have plenty of room to turn this truck up as well, can’t wait to see the damage it causes on the track this year. Here’s a little clip of the truck on the dyno and versus a Cummins diesel truck. Video thanks to Felt not Heard Productions.
6. TWIN-TURBO 5.3LS WILLYS JEEP – The Willys Jeep is slowly transitioning from a world war relic to a racing machine! I love seeing what new ideas people have come up with for these! This Willys is quite the build. They bought the body only and built the frame/roll cage from scratch. It’s a junkyard 5.3 small block Chevy with Twin turbos and a T400 Transmission, 9 inch truck rear end and the front suspension is from a Crown Vic! It puts down 661hp and 805tq.
7. LS SWAP ALL THE THINGS! – People are swapping the LS based motors into everything these days. There were a couple that I spotted this weekend in Phoenix that were pretty unique! In the car show there was a Scion FRS with an N/A LS that seemed to fit perfect! Even crazier yet I found a Subaru WRX STi with a Turbo 5.7 LS, converted to RWD.
8. WHEELSTANDS FOR DAYS! – Need we say more? Wild Horse Pass was hooking amazing all weekend long giving us some amazing wheelstands! Check out the pics below and in our gallery for more.
9. DYNOCOMP GTR – One of the baddest Nissan GTRs in attendance this past weekend. It smashed all of the competition in the roll racing category, taking down the infamous Stangkilr in the finals making a 158mph pass in the rolling quarter-mile.
10. SERIOUSLY? 9-SECOND, 1500+ HP DIESEL DODGE! – Most guys strive to hit a 9-second quarter-mile in a car, now think about doing it in a full sized Cummins Diesel truck. Equiped with over 1500whp and drag radials on all 4 corners, this truck ran a very impressive 9.40 at 145.9mph in the Truck finals. Check out the video below and watch this thing fly down the track.
