The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has created quite the buzz in the car world. Video released today by Chevrolet shows the new ZL1 posting a lap time of 7:29.6 around the grueling Nürburgring putting it in the top 30 fastest production cars that have ever been around Nordschleife. To give you an example of how big of a deal this is, the new ZL1 ran a faster time than the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, Koenigsegg CCX, Porsche 911 GT2, Mercedes-AMG GT S and McLaren 650S Spider—if that’s not a spectacular feat, we don’t know what is.
The video is worth watching all of the way through, as Drew Cattel, ride and handling engineer for the Camaro, pushes the ZL1 to it’s limits around the almost 13 mile track of 73 turns. With just around 650hp and a newly developed 10-speed transmission, the new ZL1’s lap time at the world’s most challenging track is 11.67 seconds quicker than the previous ZL1’s fast lap and 2.59 seconds faster than the Ford Shelby GT350R making it the fastest muscle car around the notorious Green Hell.
